Sterling Farms Golf Course, and all that is a part of the property, gets a lot of use. By my estimation (and I wholly admit this is purely hogwash), the driving range golf balls are hit at least 7,954,064,223,105 times a year.... That's a heck of a lotta wear and tear, even for a range ball! Well, thank heavens the leadership at Sterling Farms reinvests the money it earns right back into the facilities we all love, and even with their best efforts, we want more, more, more! Read More
PGA professional Keith Handler, has written an interesting series of instructional articles, the first of which which appears here on the Sterling Farms Golf Shop website. Keith published this article in April of this year, and gave me a heads up as to where I could find his hard work, which I found quite useful, especially for the beginner, who is lost. Read More
Paul Grillo, the Stamford Golf Authority executive director who is, in all senses of the words, basically the CEO of Sterling Farms, wrote in an email that: "Beginning today the Driving Range hours will be extended on Friday and Saturday nights to 11:00pm! Official Sterling Farms starter George Arias is recovering from a rotator cuff injury, and staying sharp while on the mend. Just look at that grouping.... no wonder he’s a.. ah... 7? Sterling Farms Golfer Stephen Lines has the right game plan for practicing behind the Pro Shop: lighten up, lighten the bag, grab any ball he’s got, and if necessary, even snag a range ball. It’s all about taking a breath of fresh air, and rolling the ball. Read More
Like his dad, Craig, Sterling Farms Golfer William Lanzoni practices often behind the Pro Shop, with his favorite red, white, and blue Callaway soccer-styled golf balls. “My father has done everything for me in terms of providing me the opportunity to play this game,” Lanzoni told sports writer, David Fierro, after winning the Greenwich Mens Town Tournament at the Griffith E. Harris Golf Course. “He makes himself available to hit range balls with me and makes it possible for us to play together,” the 2014 Townwide champ explained to Fierro. “I made everything that day,” he later confided. Practice makes perfect... sometimes. Read More
Sterling Farms Golfer Craig Lanzoni figures he’s got this business of putting all figured out, and who’s to question a little sage advice from a guy who cut his teeth cleaning his fellow members’ clocks over at the Westchester C.C. for ages! Now Craig’s magnetic personality... friendly, thoughtful and peppered with wisdom... can be found right on our practice greens. Read More
Beginning to see a pattern here? Yup. We're nuts about golf! Sterling Farms Golfer Ray Castro has style, and substance! The former minor league baseball star is often out late into the night with his signature optoid balls, practicing his 'eyes on the hole' putting technique, where he... well... looks at the hole as he strokes his putts. (They really do go in too!) Read More
Sterling Farms Golfer Trip Anderson has perfected the legendary Sharpe system of stringing together dots on the ball to help with his alignment. This technique should not be attempted at home, especially since there are two gorgeous practice greens waiting for you right here at The Farm! Read More
Sterling Farms Golfer Mark Bishop is a number-cruncher. He uses Sterling Farms' First Assistant PGA Golf Professional Keith Handler's AimPoint green-reading system, while counting putts during his rounds. His goal: 6-under-par 30 (putts). Read More
Our quest for golf Nirvana is never-ending. We love it, hate it, and then we love it again. Thankfully, the driving range at Sterling Farms keeps its lights on 365 days a year, and until 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights too (in-season)! Read More
This practice area would be perfect were it not for the fact that others are able to see my duffing the ball so brilliantly. Nonetheless... the place is simply marvelous! My how lucky we are.... Read More
