Sterling Farms is Site of 22nd WGA Publinx; Hosts Sectional Qualifying for 73rd MGA Publinx

The weather, and the golf, heats up at Sterling Farms.

Some of the best amateur golfers in the tri-state area battled against themselves, and old man par on Sterling Farms’ tricky windswept holes during sectional qualifying for the 73rd MGA Public Links Championship, and the 22nd Westchester Public Links Championship held on May 24, 2021.

The Iron Man himself—Bart Weissman—tied with four other golfers for 2nd place in both the Sectional Qualifying for the MGA, and the 22nd WGA finals.

Bart did Sterling Farms’ golf fan base proud as the SFMC board member, and multiple past club champion, made 12 pars and a birdie en route to a 3-over-par of 74. This was all he needed to secure the Senior Division title too! (Bart certainly doesn’t look like a senior to me! And you should see him play!)

Hot on Bart’s heels, and making the cut, was SFMC superstar Simon McCarthy, who was only a shot back, and made a brilliant 3 on No. 2 to boot!

That, in addition to 10 pars, and a birdie 4 on No. 18 sealed the deal for Simon, as the Sterling Farms golfer joined Bart in qualifying for just nine MGA slots.

Nearby Griff Men’s Club golfers David Peng, and the Irish gunslinger Colin Cassidy, both had top 5 finishes in the Senior Division of the 22nd WGA, with Colin (who was runner-up in the Stamford City Amateur last year)  finishing in sole third with a 6-over 77.

Peng, who qualified last year, struggled to hold the greens on Mike Golden’s hard and fast  set-up, finished the 22nd WGA Senior Division final T5 at +8.
