“Yes everything is starting to wake up out here”, Mike Golden wrote to me the other day in an email, after I asked him how things are going.
“Actually today (Tuesday) would have been a good day for pictures”, he said. I have been chomping at the bit to shoot this golf course during the springtime, and nobody knows when best to do it than him!
“The weekend and Monday also look decent”, the easy-going, tall, fit, hands-on manager of all things green at Sterling Farms exclaimed.
I will be out there soon, but in the meantime, Gilberto Natareno, senior gardner at Sterling Farms, send me some of his own great shots. Have a look!
I asked Mike what has been going on recently, in terms of maintenance.
“Long story short,” he began, “we’ve been working short-handed for the last 3 weeks. Finished up all drainage projects and tree work. Have done a lot of work on the green side bunkers lately. Edging, cleaning, adding new sand and tamping it down to firm it up. Also finished aeration of the greens and tees.”
Golfers returning this weekend from the course closure are in for a stunner on Saturday, with sunny skies and near 70-degree weather coming.
I hope to be out there to grab a few shots before things get hectic!
